Final Piece

For my final piece i decided to create a montage of waterfall pictures that i had taken at a local waterfall. I have chosen waterfall pictures because i feel that waterfalls can provide a range of different feelings from the different forces of the water cascading down the fall. The harsh fast flowing water falling from the top meets with the gentle calm waters at the bottom to create a large splash area which streaks off in soft lines. For these pictures i used a long exposure of between 4 seconds and 8 seconds to get the smoky effect on the water, whilst still having the surroundings still by using a tripod. After taking the photos i have used photoshop to increase the contrast in the images, and in some i increased the saturation so that the green foliage around the falls was brighter.

I feel that my final piece summaries up my investigation into water, taking into account some of the artists who have taken waterfall pictures and then used their techniques and aimed to achieve a result similar to theirs.

Rain Drops: My Work

I took this photo after a short rainfall. I used a small depth of field for this one, so i could capture the rain drops closest to the lens in the most detail. The metal surface also provides a nice reflection to the scenery around the area, showing the cloudy grey skies above.

Waterfalls: My Work

I tried to use the natural frame here to frame the waterfalls in the centre of the picture. I think this picture is full of tranquillity and peace. I used a slower shutter speed for this photo to capture more light into the scene. I also like how there is the big main waterfall in this scene, but it is also surrounded by a series of smaller falls too.

Waterfalls: My Work

I really how powerful the water looks in this photo. The rapid moving water strikes the ground below and creates a large splash area, leaving a harsh puddle of water underneath. Again, i like how the contrast works well in this image, and the water is highlighted by the sunlight coming from the same direction

Waterfalls: My Work

I took this photo on a waterfall close to me. I liked the way the different levels of water looked in this blog entry , therefore i tried taking a similar picture. I like how the water steps down the cliff each level, and how the bright flowing waters contrast really well wirh the dark colours of the rocks around it. The addition of the green moss on the rocks adds a splash of needed colour to the image.

Waterfalls

I really like the perspective in this photo. I like the way the sun glimmers off the surface of the water in the background, and how the water seems to fall softly onto the river below. The vibrance of the background also looks very good against the rest of the image.

Waterfalls

This photo, another one taken by BrooklynBoy1968 (Flickr), is another example of how long exposure can make the water look soft against a harsh backdrop. I really like the different levels of the water, and now they just flow together down the rock, as if it is all following a path. I think the the sharp looking rocks make it look as if the water is being forced to follow a single path, as if it is being controlled
